2011 – Budding Entrepreneur – Shark Tank Version

Shark Tank is a TV Show for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas and get funding. While not a direct copy of the show, this meeting is similar in concept and scouts might recognize the name Shark Tank and relate to it.

Items Needed:

  • A printed or projected list of 12–16 curated kid business ideas (see samples in the activity details)
  • Blank index cards or half-sheets of paper
  • Pencils, markers, or crayons
  • (Optional) Timer and bell or chime
  • Poster board or large paper (for each scout)
  • Drawing materials (markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.)
  • A product idea or completed prototype
  • Each scout’s completed Ad Poster or prototype
  • 5 Steps to a Pitch by GSUSA (Optional – one per scout)
  • (optional, for “judges”) Feedback slips or small notepads and pencils
  • (optional) Simple table signs: “Presenters” and “Judges”

Meeting Start

Always plan for 5-10 minutes to allow scouts to arrive and your troop’s opening routines.

Activity 1 – Come up with an idea that makes life better AND Share your idea with others to get feedback AND Improve your idea

Action Needed: Idea Sparks – Pick & Pitch

Time Expected*: 25 minutes

Activity 2 – Share how your idea works

(Requirement 4 Earned)

Action Needed: Product Pitch Poster

Time Expected*: 20 minutes

Activity 3 – Pitch your idea to an audience

(Requirement 5 Earned )

Fun Activity: “Mini Shark Tank” Rotation

Time Expected*: 30 minutes

Meeting End

Always plan for 5-10 minutes for clean up and Closing Routines

Scouts can do a Pick-Up Game until it’s time to go home.
