2024 – Webelos Walkabout

Scouting America’s current 2024 Cub Scout program.


Webelos is the 4th Grade level of the Cub Scout program.

Our Summary* of requirements:

  1. Gather Cub Scout Six Essentials and weather appropriate clothes and shoes for a two-mile walk.
  2. Plan a route for the two-mile walk.
  3. Find out the weather forecast for the date and time of the two-mile walk.
  4. Know the Scouting America SAFE Checklist and discuss how it applies to the two-mile hike.
  5. Demo the first aid technique for a blister, sprained ankle, sunburn, dehydration, and a heat related illness.
  6. Take a two-mile walk AND practice Leave No Trace Principles and the Outdoor Code.
  7. Discuss what went well and what you would do differently next time.

Scouting America Information and Details

Seven requirements are needed to complete this adventure:

  1. Prepare for a 2-mile walk outside. Gather your Cub Scout Six Essentials and weather appropriate clothing and shoes.
  2. Plan a 2-mile route for your walk.
  3. Check the weather forecast for the time of your planned 2-mile walk.
  4. Review the four points of Scouting America SAFE Checklist and how you will apply them on your 2-mile walk.
  5. Demonstrate first aid for each of the following events that could occur on your 2-mile walk: blister, sprained ankle, sunburn, dehydration and heat related illness.
  6. With your den, pack, or family, go on your 2-mile walk while practicing the Leave No Trace Principles for Kids and Outdoor Code.
  7. After your 2-mile walk, discuss with your den what went well and what you would do differently next time.
