2024 – Bear Habitat

Scouting America’s current 2024 Cub Scout program.

Bear is the 3rd Grade level of the Cub Scout program.

Gather Cub Scout Six Essentials and weather appropriate clothes and shoes for a one-mile walk.
Find the one-mile route on a map.
Find out what kind of path and environment you will be walking in.
Plan for how to take care of trash you make or find on the walk.
Create five images of things you find or want to remember from your walk.
Find what fire danger is in the area you will walk in.
Find six signs of animals (mammals, birds, insects, or reptiles) while on your one-mile walk.
Learn how to be kind to others you see when walking outdoors.
Take a one-mile walk AND practice Leave No Trace Principles.

Nine requirements are needed to complete this adventure:

Prepare for a one-mile walk by gathering the Cub Scout Six Essentials and weather appropriate clothing and shoes.
Identify the location of your walk on a map and confirm your one-mile route.
Learn about the path and surrounding area you will be walking on.
Make a plan for what you will do with your personal trash or trash you find along the trail.
Take pictures along your walk or bring a sketchbook to draw five things that you want to remember on your walk.
Determine the fire danger rating along your path.
From a safe distance, identify as you look up, down, and around you, six signs of any mammals, birds, insects, reptiles.
Identify what you need to do as a den to be kind to others on the path.
Go on your one-mile walk while practicing your Leave No Trace Principles for Kids.
