2011 – Petal – Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout – Basic Plan

Basic Meeting Plans are designed to have minimal supplies and still hit the GSUSA Requirements. Most meetings can be done in a 90 minute time frame.

Items needed:

World of Scouts

Information Needed: We are Girl Scouts of the USA – GSUSA! We are part of a world wide organization called World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts – WAGGGS!

Action Needed: Point out on the World of Girl Scouts map where some of the WAGGGS headquarters are and how one in Africa actually moves around.

(Requirement 2 Earned)

Singing Together

Information Needed: Just like everyone loves music around the world, Girl Scouts around the world also sing songs.

Action Needed: Sing Make New Friends song in English. Then have fun trying to sing the French and/or Spanish version of the song.

Bonus: Challenge the scouts to make actions that can go with the Make New Friends Song – like making a circle with their hands or spinning their hands in a circle when singing “A circle is round and has no end.” This can be their own troop sister action song!

(Requirement 3 Earned)

Musical Differences

Information Needed: We are all different, but we are all humans. We can come from different places and have different likes and dislikes. We can look different and have different talents. And that’s good! If one person is good at spelling and another person is good at math, they can help each other out in different classes.

People all over the world love music, but sometimes music from another country can be different. It’s not just the language that can change, but the types of music and instruments they use can be different.

Fun Activity: Play each of the three songs from a different country. Encourage the scouts to dance to them if they can. Only play a small portion of the song and then ask them if they can guess which country this came from. Point out the country on the World Map.

(Requirement 1 Earned)

Meeting End

Scouts can have a dance party to different songs in other cultures until it’s time to go home.

General Notes

Note to Leaders – No Basic Plan compiled by The Badge Archive will earn multiple badges in one level. Part of being budget friendly is not costing more than the price of one official GSUSA badge per meeting.

Some badges will take two meetings to finish. This helps scouts enjoy activities and keeps the troop budget in mind by only needing one GSUSA badge for every two meetings. Troops may choose to get a fun patch for one of the meetings if scouts want a badge/patch for every meeting. Scouts can earn the fun patch if they only attend one meeting and get a fun patch and the official badge if they go to both.
