2011 – Netiquette – Activity List

Activity Ideas

Listed under each requirement

Step 1 – Explore “oops!” and “wow!” moments

Explore the good and bad online moments (spend 30 minutes discussing with peers, interview someone that emails a lot, OR read two good and two bad published stories of online communication).

RECOMMENDED: Netiquette Tip Sheet

Step 2 – Dig into stories of “ouch” — and repair some hurt if necessary

Realize that words can hurt (analyze your last 15 text messages, interview an emotional health expert, OR practice daily online kindness for two weeks).

RECOMMENDED: The Kindness Challenge

Step 3 – Look at e-mail, commenting, or blogging

Analyze online communication (get 5 businesspeople to take the GSUSA E-Mail Etiquette Quiz, find five useful and five not-so-great online comments, OR poll gamers about online sportsmanship)

RECOMMENDED: Online Scavenger Hunt

Step 4 – Decide what makes a great social media profile

Learn what makes a good social media profile (create a dos and don’ts list, get feedback on your own profile, OR read three stories about profiles)

RECOMMENDED: Imagine a Character Profile

Step 5 – Spread better practices

Practice netiquette (make and sign a netiquette pledge, create a top 10 rule list for netiquette, OR make a presentation about what you learned).

RECOMMENDED: Top of the Netiquette List
