2011? Is this still current today?

Yes! 2011 is the current program, as of the year 2026.

Anything labeled 2011 is up to date for today’s program, unless it clearly states that it is “Retired.” GSUSA began retiring some badges in 2021, and all retired badges are clearly labeled on The Badge Archive.

GSUSA follows a “once a badge, always a badge” policy. Retired badges may still be earned and worn on the official uniform. The other GSUSA badge pages on The Badge Archive come from the 1980s program or the original 1912 Proficiency badge program. Because we anticipate GSUSA will update the program again within the next decade, we list all current badges under 2011, the year this program began.

Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) Badge Program History:

  • 1912 Badges: The original Proficiency badges. Names and requirements changed over time, but the overall badge set remained fairly consistent.
  • 1980 Badges: A major overhaul introducing Brownie Try-Its and reorganizing the entire program. Daisies were introduced and had petals (with no official requirements).
  • 2011 Badges: Another full redesign, aligning badge difficulty across levels and introducing Journeys. This is the program still in use today (2026), although Journeys are scheduled to retire in October 2026.
