Yes! 2011 is the current program, as of the year 2025.
Anything labeled 2011 is up to date for today’s program, unless it clearly states that it is “Retired.” GSUSA began retiring some badges in 2021, but they are all clearly marked on The Badge Archive.
GSUSA has a policy that once a badge, always a badge. Retired badges are allowed to be earned and worn on the official uniform. The other GSUSA badge pages on The Badge Archive are from the 1980s program or the original 1912 Proficiency badge program. We anticipate GSUSA will do another update in the next decade, so we decided to mark all current badges as 2011—the year the current program began.
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) Badge Program History:
- 1912 Badges: GSUSA originally introduced Proficiency badges. There are several revisions on names and requirements, but the badges and images remained mostly the same.
- 1980 Badges: Major overhaul of the badge system, introducing Brownie level Try-Its.
- 2011 Badges: Another significant overhaul, making older level badges easier to earn (comparable to the younger levels) and adding in Journeys. This is the current program we still use today in 2025.
