Step 1 – Groove to the music

Dance to music (freely OR learning steps from different cultures) AND discover how rhythm and creativity can bring joy to everyone.

RECOMMENDED: Feel the Dance 

  • Dance Feelings Card – Scouts listen to music, move in ways that match how they feel, and record their experience using a Dance Feelings Card.

    Feel the Dance – Scouts listen to music and move in ways that match how they feel, exploring gentle and energetic movement styles.
  • ((Similar to VTK/Handbook Suggestion))
    Guest Cultural Dancer – Scouts learn a dance from another culture by moving to music and following a guest speaker who shares the tradition and meaning behind it.
  • For D/B Troops:
    Mirror Body Language Dance – Scouts dance to music and mirror a partner’s movements to explore how body language and rhythm express emotions.
  • For D/B Troops:
    Noodle the Stretchy Cat – Story and Dance – Scouts stretch and move along with a story and a song to help their bodies feel calm, playful, and strong. Then reflect on how movement and music make them feel.
  • For D/B Troops:
    Power Up Food and Fun Song – Scouts move to a song that links food and energy, then reflect on how different foods helped them power up.

Step 2 – Move it outdoors

Explore movement and nature through an outdoor activity (gardening movements OR animal Simon says).

RECOMMENDED: Game: Scout Says Move Like an Animal

  • Animal Obstacle Course – Scouts complete a series of animal-themed movement challenges in an obstacle course using printed cards and everyday items.

    Garden Movement – Scouts use movement to explore nature while helping with or mimicking simple gardening tasks outdoors.
  • Solo Scout Garden Exploration – Scouts pretend to help in a garden and use movement to explore nature, then reflect through drawing.

Step 3 – Move big, move small

Explore how your body moves in different ways, using big actions like jumping or running and small actions like drawing or blinking.

RECOMMENDED: Critter Shuffle

  • Big and Small Movements – Scouts play a fast-paced movement using big and small actions from a worksheet, then reflect on how each movement felt and what body parts were used.
  • ((Similar to VTK/Handbook Suggestion))
    Big Movement Brainstorm – Scouts brainstorm and try out big body movements to explore how they use their whole bodies during play and activity.
  • Big Small Movement List – Scouts use a worksheet to decide if each movement is big or small and name the body parts used.
  • For D/B Troops:
    Big Small Movement Scavenger Hunt Scouts go on a scavenger hunt where movement and senses work together.
  • Creature Groove – Scouts follow a fun animal-themed dance called the Creature Groove, then guess which verses used big or small movements.
  • Critter Shuffle – Scouts follow a fun animal-themed dance called the Critter Shuffle, then guess which verses used big or small movements.

    Small Movement Brainstorm – Scouts brainstorm and try out small body movements to explore how tiny actions help them express, create, and play.
