2011 Daisy – Skill Based Badge Placement

Skill Based badges serve as interest-led explorations designed to provide awareness of a new topic, basic competency in a task, and curiosity for future learning. They act as the first steps toward a skill, offering enough hands-on experience to build foundational knowledge and situational awareness. Each badge is a “taste” of a specific subject, providing the vocabulary and basic experiences needed for a scout to decide if they wish to pursue the topic independently.

Skill Based badges should go where #12 is stated in the diagram below.

Note for Aprons: All skill-based badges can be lined above the pockets (on either side of the leaves if you have the retired leaves on the uniform).

Note – Progressive Badges (Automotive, Robotics, Coding, and Cybersecurity) do not have to be displayed in a specific order. There is just a recommended order to earn them in. You can place them on the uniform together in the order earned, or you can simply place them on uniform as you earn them and do not worry about saving room for the future progressive badges in that set. Some troops may earn them out of the recommended order. That is allowed.

There are some badge trios that look like progressive, but are not. They are all stand alone skill base badges that can be earned in any order.

  • Nature Trio: Design in Nature, Numbers in Nature, and Shapes in Nature.
  • Art Trio: Art and Design, Create and Innovate, and Craft and Tinker.
  • Mechanical Trio: Board Game Design, Model Car Design, and Roller Coaster Design.

Helpful Resource: GS Leader Resources has worked out the best way to maximize badge placement on uniform vests.
