This plan will earn an official badge in 4 different levels: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette

Meeting Start

Always plan for 5-10 minutes to allow scouts to arrive and your troop’s opening routines.

10 minutes

Activity 1 – Examine Books

(C Req 1 Earned)

Time Expected*:
10 minutes

Explore Five Book Types – Scouts look at five different books and notice how each one is made and held together.

Activity 2 – Dissect a Book

(C Req 2 Earned)

Time Expected*:
15 minutes

Dissect an Old Book – Scouts take apart an old book to learn how it was made and identify its parts.

Activity 3 – Brainstorm

(D/B/J Req 1)

Time Expected*:
10 minutes

Book Help Brainstorm – Scouts brainstorm book ideas that could solve a problem, help others, or inspire change.

Activity 4 – Book Making

(B/J Req 3, and C Req’s 3 & 5 Earned)

Time Expected*:
40 minutes

Simple Accordion Junk Journal – Scouts create a handmade accordion-style journal using recycled materials.

If you have extra time: Scouts can show off their creations or add more decorations until it’s time to go home.

Meeting End

Always plan for 5-10 minutes for clean up and Closing Routines

Useful Book Gift – Scouts make a book that helps someone stay organized and feels special to receive.

Activity 6 – Reflect

(D Req 3, and B/J Req 4)

Time Expected*:
10 minutes

Quick Fire Book Improvement – Scouts reflect on a book they made and share ideas to improve, customize, or expand it.

Activity 7 – Share

(B/J Req 5)

Time Expected*:
15 minutes

Book Gift Show and Tell – Scouts present their finished book gift and share why it’s helpful, special, or inspiring.

If you have extra time: Scouts can add more decorations to their book gift until it’s time to go home.

Meeting End
