2011 – Cookie Decision Maker – Basic Plan

Basic Meeting Plans are designed to have minimal supplies and still hit the GSUSA Requirements. Most meetings can be done in a 90 minute time frame.

Meeting Outline

Items Needed:

  • (Optional) Slips of paper with 4–5 letter words
  • (Optional) Smartphone or camera to take photos
  • Community Giving Ideas on the Sample Goal Ideas for GSUSA by The Badge Archive
  • (Optional) Voting materials such as beads, sticky notes, or ballot slips
  • (Optional) Contact information for local organizations
  • Girl Scout Cookie PDF
  • Cookie packages
  • Drawing and coloring supplies
  • Lanyards with plastic sleeve or string and a hole puncher
  • (Optional) Plain paper or cardstock
  • Plain paper
  • Pencils
  • (Optional) Cookie Chants by The Badge Archive
  • (Optional) Music or rhythm instruments like shakers or drums
  • (Optional) Smartphone or camera for recording
  • Play money for each pair of youth
  • Cookie Role-play Dice printouts (enough for each pair of youth)
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape

  • (Optional) Real cash box for booth practice

Meeting Start
Always plan for 5-10 minutes to allow scouts to arrive and your troop’s opening routines.

Team Words – Youth play a team-building game by forming letters with their hands or bodies to spell words related to their cookie business.

Activity 2 – Step 2
(Requirement 2 Earned)

Time Expected*:
15 minutes

Giving Back Goal – Youth decide how to give back with their cookie money by voting on a community idea and setting a goal.

Activity 3 – Step 1
(Requirement 1 Earned)

Time Expected*:
10 minutes

Cookie Lanyard – Youth create a cookie lanyard or necklace to help them learn and remember cookie names and key facts with an option for writing a simple pitch for door-to-door sales.

Activity 4 – Step 5
(Requirement 5 Earned)

Time Expected*:
15 minutes

Cookie Songs – Youth create their own cookie‑themed song to share with the option of turning them into a marketing campaign.

Activity 5 – Step 4
(Requirement 4 Earned)

Time Expected*:
15 minutes

Dice Cookie Change – Youth practice calculating cookie orders and making change using dice rolls.

If you have extra time: Scouts can keep rolling the dice to play new rounds of Dice Cookie Change until it’s time to go home.

Meeting End
Always plan for 5-10 minutes for clean up and Closing Routines

General Notes

  • The Basic Plans from The Badge Archive are designed to earn one official GSUSA badge per level per meeting to remain budget-friendly.
  • Some badges require two meetings to complete. This allows scouts to fully enjoy the activities while keeping costs low by only needing one GSUSA badge for every two meetings.
  • For troops that wish to give scouts a badge or patch for every meeting, a fun patch can be awarded during one of the two sessions. Scouts attending only one meeting can earn the fun patch, while those attending both will receive both the fun patch and the GSUSA badge.

  • Troops may take more or less time depending on their scouts’ abilities and interests. Plan your meetings accordingly to suit your troop’s unique needs.
