Released in 2022 but is considered part of the 2011 Girl’s Guide. Budget Maker replaced Business Owner (now retired) as the new Year 1 Financial Literacy Badge. The Junior page has information on when all badges were released.

What is this badge about?

Practice spend-save-share and needs versus wants, learn to avoid buyer’s remorse, and explore financial services.

Our Summary* of requirements:

  1. Know the difference between needs and wants, and figure out why you want the things you don’t need (analyze 5 items, roleplay 3 times, OR survey 5 people).
  2. Know what spend-save-share is and practice it with imagination (write a plan, create jars and imagine, OR use Unexpected Expenses roleplay).
  3. Know what buyer’s remorse is and how to avoid it (compare 3 items before buying, list pros and cons, OR learn what others who have purchased it think).
  4. Learn what Financial Services are and how they help (talk to expert, watch a video, OR try an interest calculator).
  5. Practice using spend-save-share (troop budget, plan for family item, OR budget for future self).
