Released in 2011 and but is considered part of the 2011 Girl’s Guide. The Ambassador page has information on when all badges were released. Image and requirements changed in 2024. (See Retired Information.)
What is this badge about?
Learn how to handle worst-case scenarios, about real-life wilderness emergency examples, how to get help in places it’s hard to communicate, make a plan for wilderness emergencies, and interview someone about training and education needed for extreme conditions.

Our Summary* of requirements:
- Learn about the worst-case scenarios you could encounter (Take First Aid/CPR course, interview first responder, OR watch movie/read a book about outdoor adventure AND discuss how they coped with emergencies and how it applies to real life) AND learn how to handle them.
- Interview someone (rescue pilot, park ranger, or member of a wilderness search-and-rescue squad or ski patrol, firefighter, EMT, or member of a local emergency response unit, OR combat medic or member of a military medical unit) about the training and education needed for extreme conditions.
- Make a plan for wilderness emergencies (take a wilderness first aid course, research AND make a checklist, OR talk to an expert).
- Learn how to get help in places it’s hard to communicate from (assemble an emergency signaling kit, learn Morse code for the letters SOS, OR find out how to use a cell phone without service).
- Learn about real-life wilderness emergency examples (read a book or an article or see a movie that tells a real-life story, find at least five news stories, OR organize a mock wilderness emergency drill with real emergency responders).
